Final Exam Ideas

My final project in English 1020 is to create a brochure of our own about "our Detroit." This project will be a lot of fun and will allow me to use my imagination, and do research on Detroit. I'm not sure of exactly what I'm going to advertise, maybe restaurants, music, or the business industry. Whatever it is I know that I have to make it interesting.

Detroit's All Stars

I'm pretty sure that a great number of people will be tuned in to the NBA All-Star Game. Most of them will hopefully be rooting for the four Piston's players. Unfortunately Tayshaun Prince will not be playing but he is being honored by his teammates because all of the Piston's players will be wearing the #22 on their shoes. It is also said that Tayshaun will be taking a well deserved vacation in the Bahamas.

"Crime Stoppers"

In class recently we have been discussing crime and how it affects neighborhoods and there citizens. Well, I have still been thinking about that subject and still wanted to make a few more comments that I forgot to say in class. I remember when my house was broken into and from then on I really didn't trust anyone who walked down my street. For a while I was in fear. I was afraid to sleep, to get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or to get a drink of water. Some nights my imagination would run wild and I would actually think that I would here someone coming into my house. It was terrible. I feel that when a crime is committed weather it is personal or not it affects a neighborhood and sometimes a city.

The Bad Boys of Detroit

I'm pretty sure that most of Detroit knows that four of the Pistons' players will be playing in the NBA All-Star Game. Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace were selected as reserves for the game. This is the first time in NBA All-Star Game history that the coaches have selected four teammates as reserves and the seventh time that a team will have four representatives in the NBA All-Star Game. Most fans feel that Tayshaun Prince should be added to the roster because he deserves it as much as the other four players, but chances are he won't be playng in the game this year. Also, Chauncey Billups will be competing in the 3-point shooting competetion. Good Luck Team!!!

The "New" Detroit

With the Super Bowl long gone, everyone has the question of weather or not Detroit will stay glamorous or will it go back to rags at the stroke of midnight. I visited Downtown Detroit recently and was amazed. You would've thought that you were in Las Vegas with all of the lights and crowds of people. I had a wonderful time. Most people feel that "the city" was just putting on a "front" for tourists and guests because of the bad image that the media has portrayed about Detroit. But I feel that Detroit did an excellent job at hosting the Super Bowl. When I visited the newly renovated Downtown Detroit I felt like a kid in a candy store. I'm glad that I waited until the crowds died down so that I could get the full effect and see the newly referbished masterpiece. Its probably the cleanest I've ever scene even though I don't go down there often. Since the remodeling I plan to visit more frequently and make myself a part of Detroit.

The Motown Winter Blast is said to be one one of Detorit's most popular attractions. The Winter Blast begins February 2 and runs until February 5, 2006. A Pain In The Road

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing approximately $30 million to construct a new interchange on I-96 at 36th Street in Kent County. The project also includes the reconstruction of 2.1 miles of I-96, drainage improvements and detention basins, retaining walls, wetlands, traffic signals, signing, and pavement markings.
Benefits:The construction of this interchange will serve motorists for many years to come. The construction of this interchange will improve access to the airport and help alleviate traffic and congestion on other state and local roads.
Time span:April 2005 to October 2006
It is a big hassle commuting back and forth to school everyday. Luckily, I have reliable transportation. With the winter trying to come to an end the streets are terrible. There are potholes out there bigger than my car tires. That can cause major damageto your car. The traffic in the morning is also trerribile. My class doesn't start until 8:30 a.m and I leave my house at 8:00. I think that the major cause of traffic jams is roadway construction. Most people don't understand that if you are aware of the constructionand slow down at constrction routes accidents won'e be caused and traffic can move more effectively.

Superbowl Safety

As the Superbowl rapidly approaches I would just like to say stay safe. Have fun at the paties and concerts but be careful, watch your back, and act responsibly. Lets give Detroit a good reputation for a change and lets all have a good time.
